Communications Internship Position Description
Interns in the communications department of the Public Education Network (PEN) assist the director of communications and the public outreach director as they seek to communicate PEN’s mission to various constituencies.
Preferred applicants are current students or recent graduates in these fields: journalism, mass communications, English, education, or political science. Some experience in writing and editing can be beneficial. Some computer proficiency is required, specifically experience and proficiency in web posting/design. An interest in properly utilizing communications to advance the cause of public education is essential.

General duties can include: |

1. |
Help compile data and information for the PEN NewsBlast, a weekly digest of education news and information. |
|
2. |
Update media lists as needed. |
|
3. |
Distribute news releases (and related material, including audio/video files and images) |
|
4. |
Make approved posting changes to the PEN website and shared drive. |
|
5. |
Provide simple courier services within PEN’s geographic area in Washington, D.C. |
|
6. |
Help PEN staff produce major PEN events (news conferences, special events, member meetings, or the annual conference). |

7. |
Answer telephones and other office duties (copying, faxing, etc.) as needed. |
