Community Assessment Framework:
Organize Several Forms of Data

In this Community Assessment Framework, the purpose of collecting data is not to quantify programs and services but instead gather information that helps in developing a picture of the community through a variety of lenses.

Gather several forms of data, including

numerical data

conclusions of community studies and reports

anecdotal evidence

testimony of community experts

information from professionals "in the trenches" of the education and youth development systems

other information that can be helpful

The purpose of the data collection is to provide concrete evidence of gaps in services, successful models, and barriers to service delivery. Only with this evidence can a community develop a highly responsive plan to create sustainable solutions to community problems.

Four Steps in This Community Assessment

1.

Develop local measures

2.

Organize several forms of data

3.

Make sense of the data

4.

Develop strategies for improvement
