The New Jersey initiative, Ensuring the Promise
of Abbott: Making Real the Promise of Standards for
ALL Children, is a statewide effort led by the Paterson
Education Fund (PEF) to create local education
funds (LEFs) throughout the state so that they can
build civic capacity to support student achievement
in their communities and work together as a consortium
to impact state policy. PEF will work with Abbott
communities to form new LEFs, provide technical
assistance, and help build LEF organizational capacity.
PEF will provide leadership development, training in
strategic planning, and community engagement tools
to LEF boards and staff. The goals of the statewide
initiative follow:

Build civic capacity in Abbott communities to
increase public support and responsibility for
student achievement through the formation of LEFs.

Build LEF organizational capacity and their capacity
to engage and educate the stakeholders in their
communities on issues affecting student achievement.

Form a statewide LEF consortium to advocate for
statewide policies, resources, programs, and practices
that will increase student achievement.
