Pennsylvania Public Education Partnership (PA PEP) is
exploring ways to improve state education policy to generate
better outcomes for all Pennsylvania students. PA PEP
comprises the Lancaster Foundation for Educational Enrichment,
the Mon Valley Education Consortium, the Philadelphia
Education Fund, and the Pittsburgh Council on Public
Education—organizations with more than 76 years
of collective experience in K–12 school improvement,
firsthand knowledge of the realities facing Pennsylvania’s
rural and urban schools, and awareness of the effects
of state policy on Pennsylvania’s diverse communities.
PA PEP’s initiative strategies include developing
partnerships with other LEFs, with local and state-level
stakeholders, with parents and teachers, business people,
and policymakers who share educational goals. In uniting
these groups, the initiative hopes to bring the collective
power of a statewide consortium to hold state policymakers
accountable for their actions so that all students will
have the resources they need to reach the high standards
expected of them. Other initiative strategies follow:
|
•
|
Generating common agreement on the key opportunities
to learn (OTLs) that all school districts
and students need to meet the high standards
expected of them.
|
|
•
|
Gathering and disseminating data about the existence
of these OTLs, or lack thereof, and about student
achievement across the state.
|
|
•
|
Bringing informed citizens together with state
policymakers for conversations about standards.
|
|
•
|
Mobilizing the public to advocate for better
state policies.
|
|
•
|
Building accountability for Pennsylvania’s
elected officials to create a fair system that
provides educational opportunities to all.
